|2-TOP OF THE POPS!
or, his guide to some aurally stimulating tunesters of this decade and
others - ie some albums and artists that he thinks are pretty good!
Working on the inspiration from my review of David Bowie's new album,
"Outside", I have decided to endow you with more musical mutterings. In
this article I shall be giving you examples of the types of music I
enjoy listening to for if you ever feel like opening your closed-little
minds and trying some other kinds of music, rather than your usual
Jungle/Hardcore "You know the score..." (2-1, 3-2 on aggragate!).
|1-New Model Army
Raw Melody Men
I am listening to this at the moment, actually, and it is amazing. A
live album, it consists of most of NMA's best tracks, such as "LiB Ed",
"Innocence", "Get Me Out" and "Vagabonds". My only complaint is that it
doesn't have "Poison Street" on it, which is on the "Ghost of Cain"
album. If anyone's got a copy and doesn't want it, I'd be more than
willing to take it off their hands, and give a suitable recompense - its
one of my favourite songs of all time.
Anyhow, this is a brilliant album, I won't try to describe NMA, their a
bit of an Irish Levellers, but a different musical style, so not like
them at all really!
|1-Sisters of Mercy
Floodland
Now, you must know what the Sisters are like, Goths, black clothes, dyed
black hair, 'kin cool music. This is possibly the definitive Sisters
album, it has all the classics, Dominion, Flood, Lucretia my Reflection,
This Corrosion. If you are at all partial to this kind of music and you
do not have the album, then get it now! In fact, even if you don't like
this kind of music, get it 'cos it'll grow on you like a parasitic
fungus.
|1-The Doors
Waiting for the Sun
Well, for starters, Freak didn't like this, so it MUST be good! But,
then, he liked Green Day's "Dookie", which I thought was superb, so,
well, *I* think this is cool, but then I'm a devout Doors fan, so I
would. If you have any doubts, walk into "Our Price-Up", and ask to
listen to "Five-to-One", that'll make your mind up for you, its 'kin
awesome!
|1-Adam Ant
Antmusic
Anybody who hasn't put on copious amounts of make-up, worn an
eighteenth-century military jacket, permed their hair, rushed out into
the street and yelled a battlecry or two at passing old-age pensioners
just hasn't lived. I can remember when "Stand and Deliver" flew
straight into the charts at number one and everybody was calling
themselves dandy highwaymen.
This album contains a wide range of Monsieur Ant's music, from his
early-ish stuff like "Prince Charming" (can YOU do the dance?), to some
of his later releases like "Room at the Top" and "Can't Set Rules About
Love" which really does grow on you. All of the classics are there,
like "Deutscher Girls", and "Puss in Boots", though my current favourite
is "Apollo 9". If you are an ardent Adam Ant Admirer (like the cute use
of illiteration?) then you will probably have most of the tracks on this
album, if, however, you are a fan who has little of his work, you could
not do much better than to buy this!
That'll do for now, I'll do some more another time. I bet you were
expecting me to do Aladdin Sane by David Bowie, I would've done, but it
seemed a tad predictable.
Until NFA start printing greetings cards, I'll be writing for The Word!
As Ever,
aLaDDiN SAnE
